Opus One WHOIS Query Tool

This tool can be used to see if the domain name you're looking for is available anywhere in the world. Most queries will be to the US Inter-registry server, which manages .COM, .ORG, and .NET names. If you want a .EDU name, remember to select the US InterNIC server. Also, keep in mind that only 4-year degree-granting institutions are eligible for those.

Checking for other domain names, including those in the .US hierarchy, and in other country hierarchies, is out of the scope of this tool. Contact Opus One if you need help looking for other kinds of domain names. We do (sporadically) maintain a list of domain name registrars.

Remember to include the top-level name only. This means that you should put in (for example) "opus1.com," and not "www.opus1.com." Other things to remember: case of letters is not significant; names cannot have spaces or underscores in them; names are supposed to begin with a letter; names of 2-characters or less are generally restricted and should not be used for security purposes anyway.

Enter the name you want to look for:

or
The defaults for most of this will be fine for most people. If you're a WHOIS guru, you may want to select a different WHOIS host to query (because you have a different question, to be sure).

Pick a different WHOIS server to query, if you'd like. Default will get a "normal" WHOIS query on the US Inter-registrar server.

Confused? Go to the Opus One home page to erase this vile techno geek stuff and find a consultant who can explain it to you. The Internet: it's not just for breakfast anymore.
