Outlook Express (for Windows) Instructions
Here are some tips and instructions
for setting up Outlook Express for users on the road.
-
Open Outlook Express and go to Tools->Accounts.
Select "Add->Mail"
-
For Display Name: enter your name as you want it to appear when you send
mail, such as "Romeo Y. Julieta." Don't put in your email address. Press
"Next>"
-
Check "I already have an email address" and enter the full address, such
as "rj@opus1.com." If you have multiple aliases for your address, use
whichever one you want when you SEND mail. Press "Next>"
-
Select your server type, which is generally going to be POP3 for 99% of
users. Enter your mail server names into the two boxes, which should be
"mail.opus1.com." Press "Next>"
-
For Account name: enter the name of your mailbox. This will NEVER have an
"@" sign or a domain name in it. If your mailbox is different from your
preferred alias, this could be something like "popuser34." For Password:,
enter your mailbox password and check "Remember password" if you would like.
Make sure that "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" is NOT
checked. Press "Next>"
-
Select "Finish"
-
Click on the "Mail" tab of the "Internet Accounts" window and select the
account you just created, and double-click on it.
-
Go to the "Servers" tab and check the box marked "My server requires
authentication."
-
Go to the "Advanced" tab and enter "465" for "Outgoing mail (SMTP)", check
"This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" under that box, enter "995"
for "Incoming mail (POP3)", and check "This server requires a secure
connection (SSL)" under that box. Press "OK"
For users who are on Opus One networks or Opus One customer networks, steps (1)
through (8) are appropriate, but step (9) is not needed. Step (9) won't
actually hurt anything, but it will slow down checking and sending mail. If
you're setting up a system on someone's desk, then you can skip step (9) and
get faster response times. Systems which are both in-office and on-the-road
should all be set up for "on-the-road" operation.
